About Us
Acorn overseas is a project abroad organisation and we are here to try and make a difference. We will arrange your volunteer trip for you, whether you are looking for a 2-week get away or a 1-year trip, what better way to see beautiful Thailand than to volunteer here?
Acorn overseas was formed when we had 6 final year students from the Acorn School in England come over to volunteer. We arranged everything for them, and one evening while holding a group meeting we came up with the idea of Acorn Overseas. The Acorn School students were so happy with everything we had arranged they though we should do it for everyone.
So here we are and we hope you enjoy your experience as much as those first volunteers did.

What makes us different from other Organisations?
There are so many gap year programs out there that are making huge profits and not giving a worthwhile experience to their paying customers. We are an organisation started solely to bring more carers and teachers to Thai people all around the country.
We are going to be more your brother and sister than like a huge company that will look at you as another client.

About the Founders
Natasha Whiting (Tash)

Hi Guys!
My name is Tash, and I am the co-founder of Acorn overseas along with Kay.
I will tell you little about myself and where my passion for volunteering began.
I came to Thailand in October 2004,to be a volunteer in an orphanage in Bangkok. During this time I fell in love with everything about this exciting country and while on my Christmas holidays at one of the islands in the south, the Tsunami hit. I spent the rest of my Christmas and New Year glued to the TV. Watching as the devastation became apparent to the world.
As soon as I saw what was happening I thought, I have nothing to lose and within 2 weeks I was in a tent on a refugee camp in Khao Lak, the worst hit area of Thailand. Just being there and helping with whatever I could was enough and the experiences I have gained from those months will stick with me forever.
Since then I have been teaching all over Thailand and when I met Kay in 2005 I based myself in Bangkok, and since then we have been dreaming of starting our own volunteering projects. And now here it is!

Pakawat Thaweeyot (Kay)

Hey guys
My name is Kay, I come from Bangkok, and I graduated from a prestigious Thai university in April 2007. I have experience working with foreigners on their volunteer projects over here in Thailand, and showing them around my beautiful country. I am bilingual which is an advantage, and makes it easier to run this project and give you the best and most exciting projects we can find.
Tash and I have had the idea of creating a volunteering project since we met in 2005. And now we have started Acorn Overseas.
I believe that to work, as a bond between the fortunate and the unfortunate is at least a chance for us to give something back to the community. Acorn overseas makes me feel like we are not just one person who takes from society, but we also are someone who can do good deeds, not just for unfortunate ones, but also for the fortunate who haven’t had the chance to give to others.

Why pay to volunteer? And where does the money go?
When organising your trip, you pay for a safe place to stay and give you a good placement where you will really be needed, and also getting to know your surroundings, learning the lingo, and airport collection. And along with that you will have us there to help you and guide you every step of the way

Weather in Thailand Throughout the year.
November to February
Dry, "Cool" Season - Winds are predominantly from the north when this season starts. Daytime high temperatures are between 30-35 C (85-95 F), humidity between 50% - 60%. Every day is a sunny day. The ground will still be saturated in many places in November due to the previous rainy season. This is the season to travel around Thailand.

March to June
Hot Season - Travellers unaccustomed to the heat should not arrive in this period. Even the Thais have problems in the hottest spells. Temperatures can soar to 40 C (105 F) on the hottest days, and at night the humidity rises. Sometime between late June to late July, evening downpours start to come.

July to October
Rainy Season - By "rainy", we are talking about evening downpours. It rarely rains for more than an hour at a time. The mornings are usually sunny, but a thunderstorm or two can come towards the late afternoon or at night. This usually starts in late July or August, but by September there is a thunderstorm on most days, often resulting in flooded streets but cooler night time temperatures. Because Bangkok is flat, you rarely find any place with more than a foot of water, and it usually drains away ... slowly ... in a few hours. By late September and October, the major rivers are high and there is sometimes permanent flooding along the river, sometimes quite deep. There is a massive investment in pumps to manage the problem, but sandbagging of economically valuable areas and flooding of adjacent areas is not uncommon. This season usually ends abruptly in late October when the winds suddenly change to the north.
